A mirror works by the law of reflection and comes in plane, spherical and aspheric types; by reflectivity it can be full-reflection or semi-transparent (beamsplitter). A thin film is vacuum-deposited on the back of optical glass. High-reflectance mirrors multiply laser output power; as a first-surface mirror the reflected image has no distortion and no double image — ordinary second-surface mirrors suffer low reflectivity, no wavelength selectivity and ghosting. Advantages: high reflectivity, wide reflection band, dense film, pinhole-free. Applications: UV exposure/lithography machines, laser marking, laser welding, laser micromachining, nonlinear optics and educational/research laser systems (reflection band 400–700 nm, R>97% at 0° and 45°).
