Description
Molybdenum (Mo) combines high-temperature strength, high hardness, high density, corrosion resistance, low thermal expansion and good electrical/thermal conductivity; its surface is extremely strong and dissipates heat very well — an ideal material for harsh physical environments. Standard molybdenum mirrors are uncoated. Reflectivity is lower than silicon mirrors (94% at 10.6 μm), but the excellent thermal conductivity gives stable operation in high-power laser equipment even at high temperatures, and the corrosion resistance and surface strength guarantee long service life in demanding environments.
